Terrie has the FDA OID to send Paul, confirmed by Brett as 2.16.840.1.113883.3.3719
The exchange format (string) is always the human readable format with parentheses
Christian notes a pilot with Mercy Health have worked with this successfully and would like to have them explain their approach. Terrie notes they have seen these documents and they are exchanging with the Am College of Cardiology, but they are a GS1 shop. Christian adds they pull the information and parse the GS1 UDI and use it internally but plan to exchange externally in future. Terrie notes that FDA funded the pilot but they have not specifically been asked this question yet; she will ask them.
Austin notes that pattern harmonization would be a good place to resolve and document the pattern. Paul notes that it would be an HL7 solution so the others would not necessarily be present.
Will next create a model to capture the decomposed elements of the UDI for next week's review. At that time we can also review how it might be used in each of the different HL7 standards.

Julian adds it's been difficult to find a good example and datatypes mapping for transferring UDI. Austin notes that this work is a precursor to make that happen. Intact human readable string is what is transferred, no matter where HL7 will put it.
